The initial step is ordering the proper body form mount to represent the positioning for final placement. Many body form mounts for all species are readily available, and customizing them is no problem for a skilled Taxidermist to meet your desires.  Extra costs are involved when custom positions are required, so do be prepared.

I had chosen to have my cougar mounted on a cliff scene, similar to the surroundings he had lived in.  I pictured him coming down off a boulder, with the half open snarl on his mouth, as if he had just come face to face with something not to his liking.  With the placement in my home to be on a vaulted ceiling wall, very near the corner of the room.  With these specification in mind, my Taxidermist, Dean Schulte, of High Uintas Taxidermy, in Coalville, UT, went to work!

A wooden platform is built, that will later be covered with chicken wire form, for designing the rock. Positioning and mounting holes for the animal to rest in are placed and anchored securely to the platform.  The very basic shape begins to form.
